Now more than ever, it is vital that the school office has current and up-to-date contact details (phone numbers and email addresses). Please contact them if your details have changed.
Normally, we pride ourselves on our open door policy, but unfortunately current circumstances make this very difficult. Instead, if you need to speak to your child’s class teacher, you can either contact the office and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, you could email us using the following email addresses:
Morning and End of Day Routines
In the morning Kew Gardens will enter through the Park Road entrance right next to the staff car park and Island and Covent Gardens will enter through the main school entrance on Bounds Green Road ready for an 8:55 a.m. soft start. At the end of the day the children will be brought to the playground at 3:25 p.m. to be collected
General Class housekeeping
PE will be on Tuesdays for Kew Gardens and Covent Garden and Wednesdays for Island Gardens. Children should come to school in clothes suitable for P.E. They will not be allowed to change at school.
We will be reading a wide variety of books in English and writing for a range of purposes. In Maths we are revisiting the children’s fluency skills, particularly times tables and then cementing their knowledge of place value. In Geography we are learning about general Geographic knowledge and sustainability. Throughout the year in PSHE will be exploring our ideas around ‘Living in the Wider World’.
Children are encouraged to take books from our class book corners and are able to take these books home. Please ensure these books are returned so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the books in our book corners.
It is anticipated that children in Year 5 will:
– Complete daily (5 minutes max) multiplication tables and number bonds practice
– Practise weekly spellings that will be tested at school
– Read daily for at least 15 minutes
– And complete one piece of independent topic related learning each term
The first parents’ evening is planned for September 21st and 23rd. Here you will be able to meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss how your little one is settling into the year. We look forward to meeting with you individually!
Story time is something we do a lot with the children at school, so we really encourage you to keep reading books at home. Children can also listen to stories online, which can help support them in their daily reading:
Last year for World Book Day, Rob Biddulph, an author and illustrator, visited Bounds Green and did an amazing workshop for our key stage one children. He is doing really amazing online art activities for children. Click the link below:
We also have some great experiments for those budding scientists, and all only using things you’d have at home!
