Black History Month kicked off with rhythm at Bounds Green School with an assembly and class workshops led by the Steel Pan Agency. The steel pan (also known as steel drums, or ‘pan’) is a Caribbean musical instrument which was created in Trinidad and Tobago in the 1930s.
Thanks to the P.T.A., Bounds Green pupils learnt about the history of the steel pan and were then treated to a performance by a dynamic duo. Children clapped along and rose to their feet as they danced along to The Merrymen’s, Feeling Hot Hot Hot. Every class from Years 1 to 6 then took part in a workshop by the dynamic duo who taught pupils a short song.
