Frequently Asked Questions
At Bounds Green we offer a range of different types of Nursery places:
A) 30 hours per week, 9.00am – 3.00pm, Monday – Friday, (usually up to 30 places)
[Please see Question 5 for information about eligibility for a 30 hour place]
B) 15 hours per week, (usually up to 30 places). We offer 3 different types for the 15 hour, part-time places which are:
This range of different offers typically mean that we have a maximum total of 50 children in the mornings and 40 in the afternoon, though parents of part-time children frequently purchase an ‘extended day’ session (See Question 5) which can increase numbers to 50 in the afternoon.
Our core Nursery team comprises of 5 full-time equivalent staff. Katy Wards, our experienced Nursery teacher, working along with Theresa Wulff-Addo, manages a dedicated team of excellent Early Years practitioners (called Nursery Nurses) namely Bipasha, Stella/Brogan (job-share) and Naz. You and your child will be allocated one of the team as a ‘Key worker’ who will be your key contact, however the whole team will always be approachable and be there for you.
In addition to the core team, other staff assist in the Nursery part-time from Inclusion Teaching Assistants to the team of lunchtime Nursery staff that provide experienced support at lunchtimes.
The key question…”Why Bounds Green Nursery for my child?”
The best answer to this key parent question has always been the children themselves, seeing them during a visit to our Nursery, showing confidence, independence and enthusiasm whilst engrossed in their play and happily interacting with each other. Unfortunately, as you know, due to current COVID-19 circumstances, we are unable to offer you a real tour of our Nursery and School to see the setting in occupation, buzzing with happy and confident children.
We have filmed a virtual tour of our Nursery setting as an alternative, which you can see above, which we hope will give you a ‘feel’ for what our Nursery is like. If you would like to hear how the parents feel about the Nursery we have a couple of testimonials which you can find at the bottom of the FAQs. We also have the Nursery Booklet (below) which contains information about the daily set up at the Nursery, this should give you an idea of how the Nursery runs day to day.
At Bounds Green, we value what each family and individual bring to our school. Ours is a community where each person feels that they are ‘known’ as the unique individual they are. Bounds Green has relationships, family and community at its very heart.
At our Nursery we focus on your child’s personal, social and emotional development as a priority, with you as parents/carers as key partners. The children learn through play-based activities that stem from the children’s own interests, engaging their enthusiasm and confidence, enabling each of them to thrive. We focus on all the key areas of learning from early language development to physical development to their self help and care skills.
We actively involve parents in a shared role as educators of your child in a number of ways apart from that vital contact at drop-off and pick-up time. We use an online software programme called ‘Evidence Me’ where we can share observation notes about your child’s developments and progress with you AND you can also share with us observation or comments about their successes and achievements at home. This enables school (as well as home) to document your child’s progress at our Nursery.
Each child and their Key Worker create a shared ‘Special Book’ where the child chooses work or photographs of their special moments with comments made by the Key Worker. In usual times these go home and parents can also contribute ‘Wow!’ moments or experiences from home.
As mentioned above our whole school ethos focuses on recognising and celebrating each unique individual. We are an inclusive school dedicated to meeting the needs of any child (or adult), and have a breadth and depth of experience in supporting children with differing (and even complex) needs.
If you do have any specific further questions that you would like to ask in relation to your child please do not hesitate to contact us. Our Assistant Headteacher in charge of Inclusion, Marcus Read, is contactable via the school office email or by telephone.
You are entitled if:
If these criteria DO NOT apply to you, you may still be entitled if:
All 30 hour offers are conditional on receiving a valid code from the Government, which is renewed every 3 months
At Bounds Green we call this the ‘Nursery Extended Day’. For those children taking up a 15 hour place, the option to buy more hours is available to you as a half-day session (as in the example shown above), or on occasion we can offer a full day top up (the equivalent of two half-day sessions). For the current academic year the cost of a single half day session is £16, however this is subject to an increase for the next academic year.
On the Nursery application form there is a section for you to indicate if this is something you are interested in. You will be able to request & apply for this formally once your child’s Nursery place is offered and finalised, with the admin office liaising with you about this. Please bear in mind whilst we do our utmost to try to accommodate your needs we have a maximum capacity therefore we cannot guarantee we can offer what you request. We aim to be able to confirm any extended day request by mid-June.
At Bounds Green we have both a Breakfast Club and an After School Club, run and managed by School staff only for children who attend our school. We are able to offer spaces for Nursery children, where it is appropriate and suitable for the child. On the Nursery application form there is a section with more information for you to indicate if this is something you are interested in. You will be able to request & apply for this formally once your child’s Nursery place is offered and finalised, with the admin office liaising with you about this.
It is important for you to be aware that our After School Club in particular is very popular and oversubscribed. We have a maximum capacity of 120 children per day, with a limit on our youngest children (Reception & Nursery). Please bear in mind whilst we do our utmost to try to accommodate your needs we have a maximum capacity therefore we cannot guarantee we can offer what you request. We aim to be able to confirm any request by mid-July.
If we are able to offer your child a place at either club this will not be something your nursery child will be able to take up immediately in September, but only after they have fully settled with the agreement of Katy, the Nursery classteacher, and yourselves. This will depend on each individual child, the earliest usually being beginning of October.
At present, we do not have the facility to offer a hot school meal to the Nursery children who stay for the whole day. We are keeping this under review but it will be unlikely for the next academic year. Children need to bring in a packed lunch. The Nursery children who stay for lunch eat their meal together in a small hall next to the Nursery classroom, and are looked after very carefully and supportively by our team of lunchtime supervisors, in partnership with the Nursery staff.
In the Nursery classroom there is a dedicated ‘snack table’ with fruit and other healthy snacks for the children to access during the day. Whilst we encourage the children to develop their independence, this is kept under adult supervision.
We hope you have found this helpful, but if you do have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us either by calling the school office on 0208 888 8824 or via email on admin@boundsgreen.haringey.sch.uk.

Testimonials:
“Our son literally runs into nursery each morning as he’s so happy and secure at Bounds Green. In his mind, he plays all day and has a lot of fun with all his new friends and the amazing staff. We know he’s learning through play and being guided and nurtured beautifully by the exceptionally talented team who are clearly highly trained and professional, yet approachable and supportive. The facilities are wonderful and it’s clear a lot of consideration and effort goes into preparing all the activities, while allowing the children the space to move freely and discover their new and exciting world.
While we’ve had one of the toughest years in living memory with the covid pandemic, thanks to Bounds Green Nursery, our son has had some of the best times of his life and despite everything, is thriving. We cannot thank the team enough for providing the best possible start for our boy!”
– Bounds Green Nursery parent
“I am a local resident and have five children at Bounds Green School. I have found the school to be excellent in both academia and pastoral care. Bounds Green School is by far the best school in the area and any parent having the children at bounds green are very fortunate. The school’s teachers are lifers(!) and this is a reflection of what a great school and environment it is. Katy, the manager of the Nursery, is exceptional, caring, hard working and dedicated. The nursery is a fun, safe and exciting environment for children to play, socialise and develop. My three year old twins love it!
Bounds Green is a fully inclusive, multi cultural school with a strong parent teacher association (PTA) and is highly rated by Ofsted.”
