At Bounds Green Primary School we strive to enable children to become confidently literate in; speaking, listening, reading, writing and understanding. Our key aim is that children are engaged in and enjoy what they are learning. Another priority at Bounds Green is that we aim high in terms of yearly and end of Key-Stage outcomes and progress.
By the time children leave us at the end of Year 6 we aim for every child to be able to do the following:
Read (including out loud) and write with confidence, fluency and understanding, whilst orchestrating a range of independent strategies to self-assess, monitor and correct/improve.
Have a keen interest in books of varying types/genres and read frequently (both out loud and alone) at home and in school.
Be able to use reading books to frequently form the basis of writing outcomes.
Show an interest in words, their meanings and their origins (etymology); also developing a widening vocabulary in speaking and writing.
Understand and interpret/explain a range of text-types and genres and be able to write using appropriate technical vocabulary in many of those forms, in an exciting and engaging manner.
Be developing clear powers of imagination, independence, inventiveness and awareness of their own skills and where they need to go next.
Show a clear understanding of many aspects of English grammar and an awareness of the purpose of this knowledge and how it will help them in the future.
Please go to your child’s year group under ‘Classes’ to see a more detailed look at the Curriculum map for the year. These are due to be updated in the Spring 2nd half term.
