In Early Years Foundation Stage, learning is underpinned by the 4 themes of the EYFS Framework:
Every child is a unique child
Children learn through positive relationships
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments
Children learn and develop in different ways.
Curriculum aims in the Early Years Foundation Stage at Bounds Green School
In the early years we aim to develop children’s skills, knowledge and understanding and provide a secure foundation for future learning.
Children learn through play from their individual starting points and by following their interests. They have opportunities to explore a wide range of practical experiences within a stimulating and inclusive environment, both indoors and outside. This includes a balance of adult directed tasks and self-chosen activity. Much of the learning is cross-curricular and is initially through the Prime areas of learning; Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (C & L) and Physical development (PD). As children become developmentally ready, the focus gradually changes to include the Specific areas of learning. They are; Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
The children’s’ learning and development is planned around the EYFS Learning Goals and in turn these link in with the Numeracy and Literacy Strategies which help with a smooth transition into KS1.
The developing of positive relationships is vital and key group sessions form an important part of this. Our home school partnership work continues to evolve and develop, enabling all children to feel valued, secure and well supported.
Above all we aim to impart independence and a love of learning through our provision, including a fun and challenging developmentally appropriate curriculum.
